background
Prism 2025, brought to you by Prism Co., is the next annual edition of the Prism Creative Conference. Creative professionals across all areas of design gather at Prism to learn something new about their craft, make new connections with others in their field, and get inspired to create.
Discovery
For this signage project I was fully locked in on oil and water photography, a delightful type of photography that results in stunning images of colorful bubbles.
It felt like a perfect representation for connection, creativity, and inspiration, so I leaned in fully to this direction.
sketches
While I typically find sketching helpful, I was going to use my own oil and water photography, so planned composition was a bit difficult. However, these helped get me thinking about different ways to marry the bubbles with typography, which would be helpful later on.
At this point in the process, the conference was called “Circles” instead of Prism, after the existing Circles Conference.
drafts
These drafts got pretty close, but there were a few typographic and compositional issues to fix. I also had yet to rename the conference to Prism, which would further affect layout.

reflection
I am very excited that I got to use my own photography in this project. I loved working with something so vibrant; however, the photography’s attention-draw made it difficult at times to know how to best incorporate typography to have it complement the image, and the image complement the typography.
This was definitely a first for me and I look forward to experimenting more with photography in the future.
